What are 5 main benefits of healthy eating and why it matters?

It’s one thing to hear that we should be eating this and not that, but what are the benefits of healthy eating?

I wrote the first draft of this and wanted to quit. The main reason was that I didn’t believe I had the expertise. I am a health enthusiast who loves to share, but I am not a scientist. If you are here and want to have the scientific version of this, well, this isn’t for you but you can find scientific research here from the Medical News Today. This is me and my 5 benefits of healthy eating.

I am going with the assumption that if you are reading this, you might be like me and want the fun version that will give you what you need. A good read and maybe a joke or two. So keep reading.

This question came to my mind a few times in my life, what is healthy eating? It’s one thing to understand what it does to our mental and physical health, but we have to start from the beginning.

Let’s get started

In the year 1820… Okay no! Haha

From the time you buy your food, bring it home, cook and eat it, are you 100% sure of all your choices? Do you question some of them or just go with it, because that’s what you know or someone just told you? Have you questioned some of the food you buy after having kids? Or maybe you just want to be healthy and that’s complicated.

To answer the question, healthy eating should include nutrient-dense food from each of the food groups. The choices you make should promote health, boost your immune system, and maintain or promote fat loss.

For example, if you are on the toilet and run out of toilet paper. You ask whoever is around to get you some, but they bring you a towel. Don’t get me wrong, that will work, but is it the best tool for the job? Maybe not.

Well, the food you choose is the same, processed food will keep you fed, but it might not be the best for the job. There are a lot of choices that are a lot easier for the body to digest and process. Choosing foods that have a lot of vitamins and nutrients will help you.

I have included below 5 benefits of healthy eating, to get you started on your health journey. There is a lot more, but this is a good place to start!

Benefit 1: Healthy Eating Boosts Your Immune System

That is one word that has been on everyone’s mind lately, immunity. A healthy immune system protects our body from getting sick. Don’t get me wrong, you might still get sick, but your life won’t be as miserable.

Benefit 2: Support Muscles Growth

Maybe this will not be relatable to everyone, but have you ever done a lot of exercise, maybe even walked way too much that one time and realized you were old and sore for days? The food choices you make during that day will make your body heal and let you do it again much faster.

Trust me, I know how good fast food feels when you are tired, fed up and just want to eat, but it might not be what your body needs.

When we think about it, when we are sick, we have such a hard time putting anything healthy in our body and we end up feeling like crap forever. Imagine if you had more vitamins and nutrients how quickly could you recover, don’t miss the 15 best foods to eat when you are sick from Healthline.

Benefit 3: Healthy Food Strengthens Your Bones

Did your mom keep on mentioning to drink milk and eat your broccoli? Great time that was.

She wasn’t that wrong, with a well-balanced nutrition. You can get a lot of the nutrients you need. The issue now, is the quality of food is not always that good. Some will provide more vitamins than others. Some will be easier to digest. One thing to take into consideration here, supplements are important if you are lacking some of these nutrients.

You have to find what works for you!

Benefit 4: Support Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

When I had my daughter, I went nuts about nutrition. I was so afraid of missing out on something she would have needed. The world of pregnancy makes it sound terrifying, what if you are missing something and your baby ends up all weird?

If you breastfeed or plan to, a healthy diet will allow you to create milk more easily. Nothing more frustrating than trying to breastfeed when there is a screaming newborn and you aren’t healthy enough. But that’s for another story!

Keeping a healthy eating habit will allow you to have more energy, provide the right nutrients to help your baby grow and keep you happy. That’s all that matters, a happy mommy and a healthy baby!

Benefit 5: Healthy Eating Gives you energy

Here are a few fun examples to prove my point.

Have you ever been on vacation, eaten a bunch of takeout and after 2 to 5 days you start craving fruits and vegetables? You come back from your vacation and are more tired than when you started it. What if you had made the effort to eat better, would you have more energy?

Another fun one, after a night of drinking, the next day, you are dehydrated, probably sick from the funky health choices you made and feel like dying. If you are careful about your choices, you will bounce back a lot easier. Have you tried green powder the next day or forced down 3 litres of water?
