After having a baby, I started reading all the ingredients in the cleaning products we used and I realized I didn’t understand most of them. Which scared me! I remember when we lived in our old apartment building, they washed the hallway floor with bleach. The smell came into our home and would give me a headache. What would this do to our baby? Not to mention, the thought that my 3-4 month-old at the time would be crawling on the floor. Being on maternity leave, I always found store-bought toxin-free products were too expensive. I started reading and found the best homemade toilet cleaner, 3 basic ingredients!

After learning about yoga and the benefits of a toxin-free lifestyle, it made me wonder what else could I do for myself and my family. I was introduced to essential oils, not only in a diffuser but also in everyday use. From cleaning products, laundry detergent, body cream, perfume etc.

All the recipes I am including I have tested. They clean, don’t break the bank and are easy to make. There is a lot you can control in your life that can make a difference. It doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive either.

Living toxin-free has become more popular lately. Some major brands are even sold at Walmart for everyone to use. Personally, I still find them expensive and for some ingredients, I still don’t know what they are. Just like food, I like to know what I am cooking with and I don’t want to worry.

I especially loved the warning sign on some of the regular products, like “use in a well-ventilated area”. Studies have shown that using a household cleaning spray can increase the risk of asthma and exacerbate allergies.

Your skin absorbs everything around you. Have you noticed your hand being dried out after you clean? If so, it is an easy way to tell that the cleaning products you have been using were absorbed into your body and have removed all the oil from your hands.
